ABOUT FRAN

Hi, I’m Francine

I’m the storyteller behind Wonderment.

I’ve always been curious about people, places, memory and why humans do the things they do. I notice conversations, tiny details, strange bits of behaviour and ordinary moments that somehow stay with me.

Wonderment grew from wanting somewhere to keep those things.

Most of the stories here begin with me talking rather than sitting down to write. I remember something, follow the thought, wander off on a tangent, find my way back and eventually realise what the story was really about.

I use AI as an editorial tool to help shape those spoken thoughts into pieces that can live on a page — organising, structuring, researching where needed and helping me edit.

The experiences, memories, observations, opinions and final decisions are mine.

I don’t really think of myself as an author.

I’m a storyteller.

Wonderment grew from wanting somewhere to keep those stories, memories and observations.

Stories about being human — how we think, feel, connect, change and make sense of ourselves and each other.

Stories about the places we go, the people we meet and the wider world that quietly changes how we see things.

Stories about the natural world — trees, weather, animals, seasons and the moments outside that make us stop and notice.

Stories about the objects we keep, use, lose and love — and the memories, people and meaning they somehow come to hold.

Thoughts from the quieter moments — questions, observations and ideas that tend to arrive when there is finally enough space to hear them.

How I Came to Tell Stories

Wonderment existed long before it became a publication.

It started in conversations, voice notes, memories I kept retelling and stories I didn’t want to forget.

I’ve always been someone who tells stories. Give me a memory and I’ll remember the weather, what somebody said, the strange little detail nobody else seemed to notice and probably three completely unrelated things along the way.

For a long time, those stories mostly lived in my head or were told to the people around me.

Then I began finding ways to capture them.

My background in youth work, counselling and sex and intimacy work only deepened my fascination with people — how we behave, what we carry, what we hide and what helps us understand one another.

Travel gave me more stories.

Motherhood gave me more.

Ordinary life gave me thousands.

Wonderment is where all of those things meet.

Not because I decided I wanted to become an author.

Because I realised I didn’t want to keep losing the stories.

A little about my life

I live in Lancashire, in a 100+ year old house with my husband, two daughters and two crazy labradoodles.

I’m a home-educating mum, which means life is rarely particularly tidy or predictable.

I love slow days, fires, the outdoors, swimming, good conversations, old places and travelling somewhere that makes me look at the world differently.

I’m endlessly curious about people, memory, behaviour, nature, relationships and all the strange little things humans do.
